Hi there, I am Lena

I’m a project manager, a parent, and an expat living in Berlin, Germany.

Several years ago, I moved here with my family. What began as a temporary assignment gradually became a new chapter of life overseas.

How It Started

Moving to Germany wasn’t part of the long-range plan. As with many expatriate relocations, it began as a job opportunity and soon grew into something much larger.

The initial months were demanding — new systems, new routines, new expectations. Daily tasks felt more complicated than they needed to be.

The Adjustment Period

There was culture shock, uncertainty, and a lot of learning by doing. But gradually routines took shape. We found places that fit us, connected with other families, and began building something that felt steady.

Why I Built FolioCandleOasis

Most information online was either corporate relocation advice or shallow tourism content. What was missing was a candid, everyday family perspective.

This site aims to fill that gap — practical guidance drawn from real life in Germany.

What This Site Is (And Isn't)

This site COVERS:

  • Practical insights from daily life in Germany
  • Centered on family life and everyday realities
  • Updated whenever something truly changes

This site DOES NOT:

  • An official tourism authority resource
  • Paid review platform
  • A generic travelogue

Looking Ahead

Our stay in Germany continues, and so does the learning journey. As long as the information remains useful, I’ll keep recording what we discover.

If you have questions about family life in Berlin or anywhere in Germany, please don't hesitate to contact me.

Warm regards,

Lena
